- If you were getting speeds of around 1900cps, that would suggest that the
- limiting factor was the comms port speed. Since you're seeing about 1600CPS,
- the limiting factor in this case is the phone line speed; because the data is
- already zipped and not compressable, you don't get any extra speed from the
- modem's compression.

- If you increase the port speed, your CPS will not increase, it will drop down
- to about 900CPS or probably lower because characters will be dropped (between
- the modem and the PC) and entire blocks will have to be resent.

- If you replace the UART with a 16550, you will be able to lock the port at a
- higher speed, but the modem will continue to send your uncompressable data at
- 14400 BPS and you'll still get about 1600CPS.
